Event days can be long, sometimes stretching to 10, 12, or even 14 hours, so vendor meals are much appreciated. However, Katie is there to do a job and takes it very seriously. While she is happy to enjoy the meal, she will absolutely not drink alcohol or join your guests on the dance floor, no matter how tempting the music may be! Her focus will always remain on ensuring that your day runs smoothly.

As someone who has worked as both a Venue Manager and a Catering Manager, I can say with full confidence that they won’t provide the same level of service a dedicated Wedding Planner or Coordinator does. Venue and Catering Managers are focused on their specific tasks—setting up tables, chairs, food service, and tear down. They work for the venue or catering company, not for you. Wedding coordinators are there for you, handling every aspect of your wedding day, from décor setup to managing the event timeline. They make sure things like speeches, cake cutting, and your first dance happen on time, and they stay with you through the entire event. Plus, there’s no guarantee that the person you’ve been working with will be the one to assist you on the big day.

Be cautious! While DJs are great at what they do, wedding coordination is a whole different skill set. Think about it: Can your DJ cue the bridal party down the aisle while also managing the music? Can they communicate with the caterers to ensure the meals, especially special ones like vegetarian, are served on time? Will they arrive hours early to set up your DIY decorations? Do they know where the flowers go or how to pin a corsage? The reality is, your DJ’s focus should be on what they do best—playing amazing music, MC-ing, and getting everyone on the dance floor. Leave the logistics, timing, and details to a dedicated wedding coordinator who can juggle all the madness and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Think about it—if your family and friends are helping, are they truly part of the celebration, or are they just “friendors” (a term we use in the industry to describe non-professional helpers)? While they may have the best intentions, they’ll likely end up wanting to enjoy the party themselves, not handle all the logistics. They won’t be able to answer vendor questions or manage your day effectively. In fact, they could end up making things worse by adding confusion or stress. You’ve invested so much time, effort, and money into planning your dream day—don’t risk handing it over to amateurs. Hire a professional wedding coordinator who has the experience to anticipate your needs, troubleshoot any issues, and make sure everything goes smoothly.
